Overview

The Summit Trail no longer is open to the Summit campground from the Maah Daah Hey Trail. A large slump about 3 miles west of Summit Campground is difficult to traverse. The largest Rocky Mountain juniper tree in North Dakota is located at the end of a 0.4 mile section of the Summit Trail from the Maah Daah Hey Trail. The junction of the Summit Trail with the MDHT is about 120 feet south of MM 142. Access the trail to the largest Rocky Mountain juniper tree from the CCC trailhead. This is a good in-and-out day hike with spectacular views of the Badlands.
