Overview
A breathtaking view on a clear day at the top of North Dakota’s highest point. This hiking only trail is 0.9 miles to the top of White Butte. Return on the same trail that you ascended the Butte. Bikes are not permitted. Users need to stay on the trail as this trail crosses private land. Additional information about the Butte and the trail can be found on the kiosk at the trailhead. Camping can be found at Amidon Cabins/RV Park in nearby Amidon (9 miles).. The nearest public campground is the USFS campground, Burning Coal Vein about 23 miles from White Butte. Burning Coal Vein is situated at the southern terminus of the Maah Daah Hey Trail.
