Campground Closes on Monday, August 18, 2025 for renovations.

This campground managed by the North Dakota Parks & Recreation Department is located 2 1/4 miles south of Medora on the East River Road (paved), then west 1/2 mile on gravel road to the state park. Also, a trailhead for the Maah Daah Hey Trail is located on the south end of the campground. More information about the renovation can be found here.

Campground expansion is expected to begin in late summer 2025. See more on name change and expansion. 

  • The campground is located between mile markers 47 & 48 on the Maah Daah Hey Trail, near Medora, ND.
  • Campground closed for renovation beginning August 18 otherwise Open year-round.
  • Host available May through September.
  • Horse-friendly camp with corrals, round pen and hay for purchase.
  • Modern and primitive campsites include a picnic table and fire ring.
  • Firewood for purchase from park office.
  • Water system will be under construction after August 18. Check with state park office, (701) 623-2024, for availability.
  • Shower house.
  • Handicap accessible vault toilets.
  • Dump station.
  • Vehicle entrance fee $7/day or $35 annual fee. Horse $6/day or $30 annual fee
  • Nightly camp fee ranges from $15 – $30 per site. Reservations available up to 95 days prior to visit at https://reservendparks.com/Web/
